Dr. Rufael Mekuria is a Principal Engineer within the Wireless Networks Group at Huawei Technologies. As a media delivery researcher, he has been involved with streaming and immersive media for the last 15 years. Currently he is focusing on 5G Advanced based Media delivery, serving as a standards delegate in 3GPP SA4, MPEG, DVB and IETF.

Mekuria is vice chair of the DVB Streaming working group. Rufael holds a Masters/Ingenieur degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Computer science.
For his research work on immersive coding he received the IEEE TCSVT Best Paper award in 2020. Before joining Huawei he worked for CWI and Unified Streaming.
