Emmanuel Thomas is Senior Media Engineer at Xiaomi, in the Xiaomi Technical Committee. He received his Master’s degree in signal processing from Télécom Physique Strasbourg (2010) and has been involved in media streaming research since then. His work ranges from new immersive experiences such as panoramic video streaming on mobile devices, 360-degree video streaming for Virtual Reality, and more recently to media experiences targeting Augmented Reality glasses. Emmanuel has also been working on bringing those innovations into media standardisation context. Since 2013, he is an active member of the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG), for which he has held several chair and editor positions for standards such as MPEG-DASH, ISOBMFF, and the more recent MPEG Immersive (MPEG-I) standards like VDI and Scene Description. Emmanuel is a regular delegate in the 3GPP SA4 standardisation group and acts as rapporteur for the Media Capabilities for AR technical specification, to be completed in 2024.
